Postpartum and Baby Essentials

Preparing for the big day when baby arrives can be a daunting task. There are is so much you can buy in the way of baby products, gear, toys, clothes, blankets, towels, swaddlers, burp cloths, sleep sacks, nursery room decor and other items, that you can go into some serious debt with everything you think you may need to buy. But what do you actually need?

More than a few times, over the last few months, as baby's due date grows closer and closer, I have put a ton of baby stuff in my online carts and had to stop myself from racking up my credit cards with unnecessary gear. I was worried that I would be unprepared for baby. What if I didn't have enough crib sheets? Change pad covers? Blankets and swaddlers? Towels? What about socks, shoes and those little knotted hats? How many of each should I get? Do I need a baby bath? When do I need a high chair? What about a play pen?

It helped me to remember that women have been raising healthy, happy babies with far less gizmos, gadgets, clothes, toys, tech-y monitors and noise makers, then we have now in the western world, for a long time. So, I didn't need to worry myself, too much. As long as I had some of the essentials. Also, as a new mom-to-be, research helped out a lot. I asked around to newbie parents, seasoned parents and grandparents and read up on baby essentials. I did my best to find out what I might actually need and what baby might actually need when he comes home. The answer: not every baby product under the sun.

Based on that research, I have compiled a list of essentials for newborn baby and recovering mom postpartum (Bear in mind, this is just for newborns so it is about the first month or so of baby being home. You will def need more things as the baby grows and gets older. I will also update once baby boy arrives).
