Fall/Winter 2021/2022 Fashion Trend Alert

I love fashion! One of my favourite seasonal activities, in my pre-mom days, was looking up the latest seasonal runway fashions and trends and going online or to the shops and looking for a few pieces to add to my wardrobe for a reasonable price point. Adorning myself in a great looking outfit, that fit my body in a flattering way and heading to work, to dinner or out for some drinks was a great way to boost my confidence, increase self esteem on those eh! body days and a great self care practice, as it was something just for me.

Here's a few looks from previous years:

Although, I am momming pretty hard these days, and not wearing much else besides yoga pants and hoodies, I still love looking up the latest seasonal runway fashions and trends.

After looking through the images on my fav fashion forward runway source, Vogue. I have compiled 10 trends from this year's shows. If you're interested in checking out the runways click on the link provided below.

My favourite shows this year were Saint Laurent and Michael Kors. Those ready to wear fall and winter styles are nothing short of gorgeous. They are also full of classic lines with some slouchy, fun, shiny, furry and sparkly flare added to keep them very playful and approachable.

We can really have some fun with figuring out how to infuse a few of these runway trends into our wardrobes this year. So, let's get started.

Here's what's trending this Fall/Winter on the Ready to Wear runways.

Oversized Knits

This is one of my favourite trends. It is cozy and warm and perfect for moms during those cold winter months. This year the over sized knits are paired with oversized pants, as well for extra warmth. So bundle up. For more on oversized knits visit my post from last year - Oversized Knits for Winter Months and Baby Bumps

Bold saturated colours

Saturation levels are high in these colours, rich reds, bubble gum pinks, royal and cobalt blues, green apple greens, bright oranges and mustard yellows. Do tone on tone or mix and match in complimentary and tertiary colour combos. It's bold and bright.

Sparkly and Shiny pieces

Shine your brightest! Sequins, sparkles and reflective pieces are making an appearance this fall and winter. Go understated with a nice sequin top or mini skirt. Try a classic look with a blazer that adds a touch of sparkle to your office look or go for a show stopping maxi dress that sparkles and shines at your next black tie event. Adding touches of sparkle and shine to your wardrobe is not only fun it's a great way to add contemporary flare to your wardrobe staples.

Oversized Puffy Coats and Vests

This trend is one that will keep you warm and cozy all winter long. Get yourself a puffy jacket or vest and don't be afraid to size that baby up a few notches, then layer, layer, layer and layer some more. It's all about looking like a puffy, lovely walking cloud. You wont even feel that winter sleet.

Toned and Tailored

Tailored pieces in similar tones are this seasons office look, and circa the 1980's those shoulders are big and pronounced. While the shoulder pad look might not be for everyone, you can still get this classic and clean tailored look by purchasing a clean lined blazer, straight or wide legged pants, a matching pencil skirt and a classic trench. Get these pieces in a muted beige, light blue, periwinkle, cream, black or grey. If you're feeling really edgy and fashion forward, you can purchase these pieces in a bold saturated colour like cobalt blue, magenta, orange, mustard yellow or red.

Craft and Cottage Patterns

For this trend think about what you would wear if you were an eclectic artist vacationing at an English country cottage for the week.

This look is all about playing with textures and patterns. Combine, patchwork patterns, tweed pieces, long knit sweaters, embroidery, tailored coats in a plaid, midi length tea dresses or midi length skirts with tiny floral patterns. Mix and match pieces that normally wouldn't go together and have some fun with it, then sit down for a spot of tea and a good long book in your eclectic wares and cottage craft chic.

Oversized Pants

Oversized wide leg pants are making a come back so go big or go home. Wear them baggy, classically wide legged, layered up or paired with a crop top.

Cut out Pieces

Similar to the cold shoulder trend that was popular a few years ago this cut out trend is more angular and asymmetrical. Look for pieces with cut outs in the waist, along the sides and around the collar bone.

Double Dark Denim

Circa the 2000's this layered all denim over look, is back. Channel Britney Spears in her head to toe denim dress.

To get the look get a few staple pieces of dark denim and pair them up. A denim corset with a full denim skirt, a denim jacket and a midi denim skirt, a pair of wide leg jeans and a tailored denim trench, mix and match those denim pieces.

Faux Fur

Faux fur coats and touches were all over the runway. Gracing the ends of sleeves, skirts, lining collars, worn around the neck or draped over outfits as statement making scarves. Faux fur is a trend that you can have some fun with and easily add to your classic winter wardrobe pieces.
