2021 Home Decor Trends : House of Gabrielle’s round up of 2021's most notable trends

Give your home a contemporary look and feel with the latest and greatest home decor trends of 2021

This year's home decor trends are all about creating an organic look and feel with light and airy neutrals, earthy tones and colours, dried grasses and plants, touches of greenery and textures inspired by mother nature herself. Adding any of these trends to your living spaces will help you create a contemporary look and feel that is warm, inviting, cozy and a little bit boho.

Earthy Paint Tones for Your Walls

Green, greige and grey are popular paint colours this year. Think organically named colours that invoke the smells of the earth and all that comes from it, such as, sage, moss, olive, artichoke, mushroom, sand, drift wood and grasses.

Rattan and Wicker Furniture and Decor accents

Rattan and wicker are back! This time with a more boho inspired softness to offset this funky 80's throwback. Try some pieces in wicker and rattan with modern, simple designs and lines such as an elegant wicker egg chair, piled up with natural linen pillows, two ottomans piled on top of one another by a nice cozy chair, a round wicker coffee table for your living room space, some smaller pouffes or stools for extra seating or a nice, or a collection of round baskets on the walls.

The key with this trend is use it sparingly. You don't need to go all out and get an entire wicker dining room set. Just some nice touches here and there can update your space.

Dried Grasses and Florals

Grasses and other dried elements such as miscanthus grasses, pampas grasses, rabbit tail grasses and eucalyptus are filling up containers in all of the top trending living spaces this year. A fairly easy and lovely trend to add to your coffee table, kitchen table, bathroom shelf, living room area. Try placing your dried foliage in a beautiful glass vase or container.

These dried elements and grasses come at a variety of price points and sizes to match your space.

Navy Tones Inspired by the Sea

If you're looking for some colour to add to the organic, soft, neutral touches and trends of 2021 look no further than the raging sea because navy is all the rage in 2021. Add some moody blues in dark hues to any room with a navy accent wall, some dark, velvet navy pillows or a gorgeous navy rug to give your living spaces a touch of drama.

Natural Neutral Textures and Finishes

Natural neutrals are the monochromatic colour palette of choice in 2021. To achieve this look, paint your walls a neutral colour, add finishing touches with natural textures in light whites, creams, beige, grey and greiges such as macrame wall hangings, linen pillows and curtains, sheep skin textured rugs, rope knots and rough sculptures and more. This will create interest and depth the a monochromatic look and feel of the space.

Organic and simple artwork and prints

When it comes to prints and art on your walls, this year, it is all about keeping it simple and organic. Contour drawings and paintings of foliage, flowers, faces and abstract designs are gracing gallery walls this year.

Less is more when it comes to this art trend and a few of these types of pieces grouped together in a gallery wall bring a contemporary and fresh look and feel to any space. It's a great update bringing your home into 2021.

Plants (real or faux)

Adding the organic and the green to your space with plants is one of my favourite trends of the year. I hope it sticks around for a while.

You can go for real plants, if you have a bit of green thumb and don't mind keeping up with watering plants, or order high end faux plants and save yourself the hassle.

Choose plants that are simple in nature such as, snake plants, fig leaf trees, monstera plants, palms and succulents, large or small.

Place them in every nook and cranny or in a few well light corners of your home. You don't have to worry about lighting if you go with faux.

Adding some lovely plants and bringing the outside indoors, will have your home looking fresh and contemporary.

Oversized Mirrors

The Anthropologie mirror is all the rage this year. It instantly became a huge interior design trend, as did, large, oversized, ornate or just plain bordered mirrors.

This trend with the right mirror and placement add an upscale look and feel to your space and you can add it to any corner, such as bedrooms, dining rooms, fire place mantels and more.

Natural Wood Furniture and Finishes

The wood finish this year to covet is the natural, rustic wood look. Which means, if you are refurbishing furniture you need to get a good sander. The white chalk paint has been replaced with the natural wood textures. If you are going to varnish do so sparingly and lightly. Allow any worn edges and nicked pieces to just be as they are. That's the charm of this trend -- worn, warm, organic looking furniture pieces.
